What Happens If My Flight Is Delayed at Logan Airport?
One of the most common questions we receive at Boston Preferred Car Service is:
“What happens if my flight is delayed? Will my chauffeur still be there?”
The short answer is yes.
As long as your flight is still scheduled to arrive at Boston Logan International Airport and the airport remains open, your chauffeur will be there to meet you.
We Track Your Flight Automatically
Many travelers assume they need to call us every time their flight is delayed. In most cases, that is not necessary.
Our reservation system continuously tracks incoming flights, and our chauffeurs have access to the same information. Whether your flight arrives early, arrives late, circles over Boston due to weather, or experiences a delay, our system automatically updates the arrival information.
In fact, flights often arrive earlier than scheduled, especially from nearby cities such as New York, Washington, DC, Philadelphia, and Toronto. It is not uncommon for these flights to arrive 30 to 45 minutes ahead of schedule.
Because we track flights in real time, our chauffeurs adjust accordingly.
What If My Flight Is Delayed Several Hours?
You do not need to worry.
As long as your flight number remains the same, we will continue tracking it and adjust the pickup time automatically.
We have accommodated passengers whose flights were delayed for many hours and even overnight. If the flight is still the same flight, we will be there when it arrives.
When Should I Contact Boston Preferred Car Service?
Most flight delays do not require a phone call.
There is generally no need to contact us if:
- Your flight is delayed.
- Your flight arrives early.
- Your aircraft remains on the ground longer than expected.
- Air traffic control delays your arrival.
- Weather causes a temporary delay.
However, you should contact us immediately if:
- You miss a connection.
- The airline places you on a different flight.
- Your flight number changes.
- You decide to travel on a different day.
- You want to change your pickup location.
This is important because we track the flight originally entered into your reservation. If the airline rebooks you onto a different flight, we will not know about that change unless you tell us.
What Happens If My Flight Is Cancelled?
If your flight is cancelled by the airline, you will not be penalized.
If the cancellation requires your transportation reservation to be cancelled, there is no cancellation charge due to the airline’s cancellation.
If the airline rebooks you onto another flight, simply contact us as soon as possible and we will update the reservation.
If you are rebooked for the following day, we will gladly accommodate the new schedule.
How Long Will My Chauffeur Wait?
Boston Preferred Car Service includes complimentary grace periods based on the type of flight.
Domestic Flights
Passengers arriving on domestic flights receive a 30-minute grace period.
International Flights
Passengers arriving on international flights receive a 60-minute grace period.
These grace periods begin when the aircraft arrives at the gate, not when it touches down on the runway.
This gives passengers sufficient time to deplane, collect luggage, clear customs and immigration when applicable, and proceed to the designated limousine pickup area.
In the vast majority of cases, this is more than enough time.
If additional waiting time is required beyond the grace period, waiting time is billed in 30-minute increments according to the vehicle’s hourly rate.
The same waiting-time policy applies to meet-and-greet reservations.
How Can I Make My Pickup Go Smoothly?
One of the best things you can do is contact your chauffeur before leaving the terminal.
Every passenger receives the driver’s name and phone number before arrival. Sending a quick text message or making a brief phone call helps confirm that both parties are ready for pickup.
While this is not required, it often makes the pickup process faster and easier.
Where Should I Meet My Driver at Logan Airport?
Unless you have reserved a meet-and-greet service, you should proceed directly to the limousine pickup area assigned to your terminal.
Boston Logan has separate limousine pickup areas for:
- Terminal A
- Terminal B
- Terminal C
- Terminal E
Follow the airport signs for “Limos” within your terminal.
If you are unsure where to go, contact your chauffeur or our dispatch team before leaving the terminal.
What If I Don’t See My Chauffeur?
Do not assume your driver is absent.
Instead, call your chauffeur or our 24-hour dispatch line immediately at 781-816-3851.
Sometimes passengers arrive significantly later than expected, causing the chauffeur’s Massport limousine permit to expire.
When that happens, the chauffeur may need to return to the limousine pool, obtain a new permit, and return to the terminal pickup area. This process can take approximately 15 to 20 minutes.
Calling us immediately helps prevent confusion and avoids unnecessary no-show charges.
What About Snowstorms and Severe Weather?
New England weather can be unpredictable, but our operating philosophy is simple:
If Logan Airport is open and your flight is landing, we expect to be there to pick you up.
Only in extremely rare situations involving severe blizzards, road closures, government travel restrictions, or airport shutdowns would transportation be affected.
Final Thoughts
Flight delays are a normal part of modern air travel. Fortunately, they do not have to disrupt your ground transportation.
At Boston Preferred Car Service, we continuously monitor incoming flights, adjust chauffeur schedules in real time, and remain committed to providing reliable airport transportation regardless of delays.
As long as your flight remains the same, you can relax knowing that we are tracking it and will be there when you arrive.
